Downtown Richmond Engagement Session

Today we’re sharing Emily and Andrew’s Downtown Richmond Engagement Session. We started at the VMFA and ended at the Branch Museum and walking along Monument Avenue.

So when we first did our inquiry call with them Emily and Andrew were actually on the road. They were taking a few months to just drive around the US and visit a lot of different cities to try to find out where they wanted to settle down. They ended up choosing Richmond. I think it’s such a fun idea to take advantage of the fact that you work remotely and be able to sort of just explore while you’re an engaged couple.

Richmond is the best.

This is an example of how good outfits go along way. We always recommend that our couples pick two outfits; one there is a little more formal and one that is a little more casual. Totally fine if casual is more your vibe. Honestly we would probably spend more time in our casual outfit if we were doing a photo session. But just having a formal outfit that is really classic and refined just makes a really big difference.

They showed up and my jaw dropped – they looked incredible.  We were chatting about how they were not really photo people, and they were a little nervous along with the excitement of doing a session.

But may I say that taking some time to put together a nice outfit and primp a little beforehand with hair and makeup makes a really big difference in your confidence level.  You just feel more ready for photos and more excited to be in front of a camera if you’ve taken some time to put yourself together well.

Downtown Richmond, VMFA and Branch Museum engagement

So they started in their formal outfit at the VMFA. And the plan was for them to change and meet us at the branch museum. But when we walked up to the Branch Museum they were already there and in the same outfit. They have decided that they just like that up enough that they wanted to stay in it a little bit longer. Which is hysterical because on the way there, Michael was like “we probably should’ve told them that they should just stay in that first outfit for a little bit longer”.

We love shooting at the VMFA for the clean lines and beautiful setting. But we adore the Branch Museum because it is just so Richmond. With the historic break and walking along Monument Avenue it’s just screams Richmond city.

We didn’t even use the median on Monument Ave, we just walked the streets for a bit.  It’s so fun using the homes and streets of the city for a session. And so perfect for bringing your dog to your session.
