Hannah and Jameson got married this weekend, and their St. Stephens Jefferson Hotel Richmond wedding was spectacular! It also felt a little like we were hitting all of the Richmond highlights in one wedding. We started at their childhood homes in the West End, made our way to St. Stephen’s Church for the ceremony, and then headed downtown to The Jefferson Hotel for the reception.

Pretty houses, a beautiful Richmond church, The Jefferson, a great party… we really did get all the hits!

Getting Ready at Their Childhood Homes

The day started at Hannah and Jameson’s childhood homes, which was such a great way to begin their wedding day. Both families were incredibly kind, and there were so many little moments that made the morning feel personal.

Hannah’s dad was especially cute. Her mom told me, “He’s a girl dad, so he knows these things,” and she was absolutely right. I had moved the girls into the living room where there was a fan, and he immediately came over and turned it off for them because he didn’t want their hair to get messed up. I mean, what dad thinks of that?

Jameson’s family was equally fun. His relationship with his mom was adorable, and his dad was basically the fun uncle who somehow ends up in the back of every photo. During the reception, he tried to jump into a photo and got kicked out! Throughout the evening they were throwing people in and out of so many group photos! It was hilarious.

He was hysterical, and honestly, that pretty much sums up the whole group. Everyone was so nice, so funny, and so genuinely happy to be there for these two.

A Richmond Wedding at St. Stephen’s Church

From the West End, we made our way into Richmond for the ceremony at St. Stephen’s Church. It’s such a beautiful setting for a Richmond wedding, with the gorgeous church and courtyard making it a great spot for portraits as well.

St. Stephen’s is also right around the corner from St. Bridget’s Church, which is another favorite of ours. We’ve photographed a lot of weddings at St. Bridget’s, and couples will often use St. Stephen’s for portraits because of the beautiful courtyard and front of the building.

We had a fairly tight window for portraits before the ceremony, but Hannah and Jameson’s wedding party was incredibly helpful. They also had a longer cocktail hour later in the day, which gave us some extra time to work with.

The Fastest Family Photos Ever – St. Stephens Jefferson Hotel Richmond Wedding

One thing we were a little worried about was family photos. Extended family photos are usually the part of the wedding day where time disappears. Someone is missing, someone doesn’t know they’re supposed to be in the photo, someone wandered off. It happens. But Hannah and Jameson’s families were ready. Like, actually ready.

Hannah really wanted to use the altar for some of their photos, and we only had 20 minutes of access in the church to fit in family, wedding party, readers, their signing, portraits of them, and everything else happening after the ceremony. We were thinking we might have to pull everyone outside afterward, but everyone was already there and waiting.

We got through extended family, wedding party, family, readers, all of it, and still had time. That kind of organization makes such a difference on a wedding day.

Seven Years Later – St. Stephens Jefferson Hotel Richmond Wedding

This wedding day also happened to fall on the seventh anniversary of the day Hannah and Jameson met. People kept bringing it up throughout the weekend, and honestly, it was so special.

We heard so many stories about them throughout the rehearsal dinner and wedding day, and it was obvious how close their families and friends are. They were constantly telling stories, bringing up old memories, and making it very clear that Hannah and Jameson are very loved.

Meanwhile, we remember meeting in government class and playing Sudoku. That’s about as specific as we can get!

The Jefferson Hotel Wedding Reception

After the ceremony, we made our way downtown for the reception at The Jefferson Hotel. I feel like it doesn’t get much more Richmond than The Jefferson.

Hannah and Jameson were able to make it to the very end of cocktail hour and heading down the stairs, which is obviously one of the moments everyone wants when they get married at The Jefferson. We also gathered everyone on the stairs for one giant group photo, which actually worked really well.

The reception was just a dream. They had an awesome band, their friends were so much fun, and everyone genuinely seemed excited to be celebrating these two. Throughout the reception, there were so many groups of people coming up wanting photos. Even teenagers were coming up asking to take photos, which is not something we see at every wedding. Usually teenagers are pretty happy to avoid the camera. But everyone wanted to be part of it!

A Full Richmond Wedding Weekend

We also photographed Hannah and Jameson’s rehearsal dinner at The Boathouse, so we got to spend the entire weekend following them around Richmond. The Boathouse, St. Stephen’s Church, The Jefferson Hotel — it really was a pretty great tour of the city.

More than anything, it was just an awesome weekend with two people who were so much fun to photograph. They didn’t have a planner running the day, but you honestly wouldn’t have known it. Hannah was incredibly organized, their families were ready, their wedding party was helpful, and their friends were completely invested.

Everything just worked.
