Kellam Estate Virginia Beach Wedding

Today we are sharing Kelly and Matt’s Kellam Estate Virginia Beach wedding day.

This wedding venue online really looks like it should be out in the middle of nowhere. It is a historic home on a beautiful property. There’s a really large lawn with some historic small buildings (like a little old school house and barn). But with the GPS said we were three minutes away we were still in the middle of populated Virginia Beach. I honestly couldn’t believe it when we turned in.

It was a little chilly this day. We were definitely feeling the fall vibes. It was very October in the temperature. But it was an absolutely spectacular day. We were glad that they had some heaters in the tent for the reception but otherwise it was just perfect.  Kelly did have a custom jean jacket, so I think that saved her.

After their first look they decided to share their vows privately. I love if you’re not choosing to share personalized vows at your ceremony to use your first look to say those to each other privately.

Entire bridal party was such a blast to hang out with. Their family members were just amazing. Everyone the entire night was just so much fun and so nice to us. We had such a good time.  They had such an amazing party.

We’ve had some really good parties with all of our weddings this year. But I cannot think of one that even comes close to this reception. I mean this reception was solid dance music for like five hours. There was no lulls – there were no slow songs. It was hits the entire time.

Their DJ did such an amazing job. He kept the music going even when we had to pull a couple of groups for a photo. There was a group that gathered at the front of the dance floor and the back of the dance floor was still partying hard. He did such a good job keeping it upbeat and fun.

I always try to keep what I on the bride of the whole reception. Just in case she needs a photo or needs something. And I kept having to get on a chair to find Kelly because she was all over the place dancing with everyone and bouncing around the dance floor.  The dance floor stayed packed the whole night.

We love these two so much. Kelly and Matt are such a wonderful couple and it was so nice to be able to celebrate them in such a joyful and fun night.

Things you should steal from this Kellam Estate Virginia Beach Wedding:

1 – Swap cake for Churros

To stick with their we want to party all night see him. They did not pause to cut the cake they had staff passing around cups of churros with dipping sauce. It was super portable, no one had to leave the dance floor. And it was so, so delicious.

Definitely if you want to have an awesome dance party preplan “clumping” all of your reception events together. Do your first dance and toast and any other events all at the same time so that the rest of the evening could be saved for your party.

2 – Pose on the dance floor

So often when we’re taking a picture of someone at the reception they’re like “oh now, what are we do?” Kelly and Matt’s guests knew exactly what to do.

They did one of three things:

ONE – gather with the people you’re talking for and smile for a picture.

TWO – pretend like you don’t see us, but have a cute smile while you continue dancing or talking.

THREE – get together, continue dancing, but pose towards the camera.

3 – A dress overlay

I was fully obsessed with Kelly’s wedding gown.

She had an absolutely beautiful dress that she wore for her first look. But then she had a skirt overlay that sort of turned her dress into a beautiful ball gown for the ceremony. So Matt got two completely different ways of seeing her.

He saw her in this stunning gown for their first look but then also got to see her in this beautiful classic dress and veil when she was walking down the aisle. I thought it was such a great idea. She also got portraits in both of those dresses so really a huge variety there as well.
