Big Spring Farm fall wedding

Today we are sharing Katie and Jacob’s beautiful Big Spring Farm fall wedding that we just shot in Lexington.

This is actually the first time that we’ve had a chance to shoot a wedding at Big Spring. We have had lots of inquiries and friends that have been married there, and other wedding photographers that we are friends with have shot there. So we have seen lots of pictures and feel like we know it well. But it was so nice to actually be able to see it all in person. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Lexington itself is a really cool town. They had the rehearsal dinner there that we actually photographed the night before. It was at a beautiful venue called the Patton room at the George’s. A really really cool place to have rehearsal dinner/welcome party. But then Big Spring itself really just blew us out of the water.

Big Spring Farm fall wedding – getting ready

They have the cutest house to get ready in. We walked up and Katie was actually getting ready and her mom’s wedding dress. She had her mom’s wedding dress transformed it up to a pajama set which was so fun and turned out so well. A really cool way to use her mom’s wedding dress on her wedding day even though she knew she would never actually wear her dress for the wedding itself.

It was also so fun because her maid of honor was actually doing her make up. The day started off this Big Spring Farm fall wedding in such a fun way.

Jacob actually got ready at a nearby Airbnb. Which was a really cool kind of treehouse looking property. But then Big Spring is really nice because they were able to arrive without worrying if they would accidentally see Katie because they were so many packets of space that they should each be in.

Big Spring Farm fall wedding ceremony

The ceremony itself to place on a peninsula in the middle of the big lake there. Or Big Spring I guess I should say. It was an absolutely beautiful place for a ceremony. The sun came in a little crazy so it made pictures kind of hard but it was such a beautiful place to actually be in.

Folly, their beautiful dog was there for the ceremony and also kind of ran around during cocktail hour which was so fun.

Then after the ceremony we took them up to the top of the hill for a few portraits. I wish I could’ve had them up there for like an hour and a half it was so beautiful I could’ve stayed up there taking pictures for so long. But we took just a few before they went down and enjoyed the rest of their party.

Your party was the best. They had late night snacks, and dance props, and awesome band. It was so much fun. Party moment. We love the heart glasses or Katie had a cowboy hat with bride written on it and a veil that her maid of honor had given to her. It just makes the party aspect of the reception so much fun.

Buy an awesome pair of shoes

Katie bought a really spectacular pair of shoes for the wedding day. And rather than just wearing them once, she wore them to all of her wedding events. She wore them to her engagement session her bridal party her rehearsal dinner and on the wedding day. They were so fun and she got so much good use out of them. So it made it kind of like an OK splurge.

Group the reception events

I love the whole flow of the reception. Cocktail hour kind of went right into the reception. They were introduced, did all of their first dances, and toasts right away before guests were released and cocktail hour just kind of continued. Guests got food at the different stations when they felt like it and dancing sort of opened, it was a party for the rest of the evening.

It made it more of a laid-back night. And just sort of encouraged mingling and more of a party atmosphere.

Late Night Snack in leu of favors

They had sliders and french fries as a late night snack. Their dinner was served more around six or seven. So people were certainly hungry by 10 PM after a night of dancing. It made it so fun and was definitely appreciated by their guests.

It was such a fun day and a really fun way to end it.
