Richmond Parks Summer Engagement

Today we are sharing Megan and Alec’s Richmond Parks summer engagement session. We shot here in Richmond this past weekend at Maymont and then finished up on the James River in the T-Pott bridge/ Brown’s Island area.

I would venture to say that about 90% of our engagement sessions take place at one or both of these locations. Maymont and the Tredegar/Belle Isle/Brown’s Island/T-Pott bridge area are definitely Richmond favorites for photography locations.

Maymont is such a beautiful location. But especially this type of time of year the gardens are in bloom and everything is so lush and green. There’s such a ton of variety in the massive park that is Maymont.

Then the other area down by the James River (Tredegar/Belle Isle/Brown’s Island/T-Pott bridge area) has so much packed in such a small space. If you want the water you can go to Belle Isle or the Canal walk. If you want the historic buildings you’re right there at Tredegar for all of the brick and cool architecture. Brown’s Island is just like a massive park. The bridge is such a popular spot with the beautiful views. And it’s all within like a half a mile walk.

The only thing I can say that you might be missing from these two spot is like a downtown city five. You’re not gonna get like cool houses or sidewalks, that kind of thing.

Richmond Parks Summer Engagement locations

Megan and Alec actually live in Chesapeake. They traveled to RVA for their engagement session so I sent them a couple of samples of past engagement session we’ve done here in Richmond beforehand so that they could pick a good location for their session.

She mentioned she’d been to Maymont and loved it.  But also the water is so special to them, living in Chesapeake.  So it actually worked out perfectly because in the summer Maymont closes at 7pm. Because we try to schedule all of our engagement sessions in the two hours before sunset for the best light, we’ll often ask you to choose a second location to go to after Maymont in the summer because sunset isn’t until like eight or 8:30pm.

I’ve known Megan forever. I used to be Megan’s youth leader when I lead a church group during college. Megan was in middle school at that time. Megan and her entire family are just absolutely amazing. They are all such fabulous people – I love them all.  Her brother is getting married too – so we are just so excited for the both of them!

Was the first time we got a chance to meet Alec. But he is the best. He started off being very upfront saying “I really don’t like taking pictures.. This isn’t something that I’m super excited about.” But was so sweet and accommodating the whole time and was SO smiley and adorable interacting with Megan.

They were an absolute joy. It was so much fun getting to spend time with them – we can’t wait for their wedding day. But for now, enjoy a few of our favorites from their Richmond Parks Summer Engagement session.

Congrats you guys!
