Today we’re sharing Megan and Timothy’s Richmond Brewery Engagement Photos and honestly… this one felt like the most Richmond kind of day in the best way.
If you’ve spent any time in Richmond in early March, you know the feeling.. one of those first warm, sunny days where it suddenly feels like the entire city comes back to life.
So naturally, our original plan was to meet at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the Fan District. It’s one of the most popular engagement session locations in Richmond for a reason, beautiful architecture, open green space, and endless photo spots.
But when we pulled up… everyone had the exact same idea.
We had actually been there the day before for another session and couldn’t even get into the courtyard. And somehow, this Saturday was even busier. Every walkway, every corner.. completely packed.
So we pivoted.
Just a block away (and still right in the Fan District), is one of our favorite underused spots in the city: the Virginia Museum of History and Culture.
And honestly? It might be one of the best-kept secrets for engagement photos in Richmond.
The front steps, the clean architecture, the symmetry.. it gives off a very similar feel to the VMFA, but with way more breathing room. Especially when there isn’t an exhibit installation on the stairs, it’s simple, classic, and so easy to photograph beautifully.
We actually use this spot all the time.. for mini sessions, even our own family photos, because there’s so much variety in such a small space.
Megan was immediately on board (which is one of the many reasons we adore her), so we spent the first half of their session there.
Quick backstory.. I’ve known Megan since she was in middle school, which made this session even more special.
And Timothy? Absolute gem of a human.
At one point Megan told him, “You don’t have to smile with your teeth,” and we were all like… wait, why not? He looked great. And then he casually switched into this full smize situation and somehow nailed that too.
Basically, they’re the kind of couple you could hang out with all day.
Megan had the idea to end their session at a brewery and asked if we knew any good ones. We immediately said.. you’re in Richmond… of course we do.
Our first pick? The Veil Brewing in Scott’s Addition. It’s one of our favorite spots in the city and such a fun way to add variety to an engagement session.
Now… remember that perfect spring Saturday we mentioned?
Apparently, anyone who wasn’t at the VMFA was at The Veil Brewing.
And honestly, every brewery in Scott’s Addition was packed. We did a quick loop and confirmed.. no seats anywhere. But that’s kind of the magic of Richmond when the weather finally turns.
Even still, The Veil is big enough that we were able to find a few tucked-away spots to shoot.
Michael dropped me off to grab beers (because priorities), and somehow the timing worked out perfectly.. I walked out just as Megan and Timothy were arriving, and we snagged a standing table right at the edge of the crowd.
We shot for maybe 10–15 minutes total, mixing in a few shots with full brewery vibes and a few that felt a little more low-key.
Then we found one of our favorite little angles.. those big garage doors where you can shoot from outside while they’re inside. It gave us something totally different to end the session.
And honestly, the real win?
Being able to grab Reveler burgers on the way out.
10/10. No notes.
This session felt like such a perfect reflection of Richmond.. beautiful, a little chaotic, full of energy, and always giving you something great if you’re willing to pivot a little.
But more than that, it was just really special getting to photograph Megan and Timothy. Knowing her for so long, and now getting to see this season of her life—it’s the best part of what we do.
We already know their wedding later this year is going to be incredible (and full of some of our favorite people).
Megan & Timothy.. congrats, you two. We cannot wait for what’s next. Hope you love these Richmond Brewery Engagement Photos!
