Willow Oaks Richmond Wedding

They were sharing Karen and David’s Willow Oaks Richmond wedding day. They just got married here in Richmond at Willow Oaks country club with a ceremony at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

In case you missed it, there was a tropical storm this weekend. The rain was persistent.  It was possibly the worst weather we’ve ever had on a wedding day. There is almost always some part of the day where there isn’t rain, but not on this day. And not only was it rainy, but it was windy. So even when we found an overhang, they were still getting wet.

This bridal party was one of the most wonderful we’ve ever worked with. They were so sweet and such troopers even though I had them standing in the rain.

They took a trolley from Willow Oaks where they were getting ready to the ceremony at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Indoor Richmond wedding

The saving grace at this wedding day was that the plan was originally to be indoors all day. Their reception was going to be indoors at Willow Oaks. Their ceremony was indoors at the Cathedral. Both beautiful indoor spaces. Willow Oaks has giant windows and beautiful walls. The cathedral is just an absolutely stunning historic building in downtown Richmond. It was wonderful that they were planning to use these indoor spaces anyways.

The real hiccup was just being able to get their portraits done outdoors. So another perfect thing about this wedding was being able to use indoor spaces with a lot of light and some beautiful overhang spaces.  The Cathedral in particular has a beautiful front of their building.

The best and worst part of this wedding day was Karen and David. The worst being that Karen and David are some of our favorite people of all time and we just hate it that they had to deal with this terrible weather on their wedding day. But the best part is that Karen and David’s personality is so joyful and so “go with the flow” that they handled it with such grace.

There were a lot of pivots on this day and they just rolled with all the punches. And then it was followed up by the most wonderful party.

Willow Oaks wedding reception

Be able to hear the song Shout without saying “let’s go Buffalo” in my head. Also they had two last songs that were just over the top fun.

I absolutely loved their parent dances too. I think it is what we would hope to get out our own kids’ wedding. If we had a girl I think you were definitely dance to an upbeat fun songs with her. And if our two boys do not dance with me the way that David danced with his mom I will be very upset. He was just so sweet and such a good son and you could just tell. And she was just bawling – it was so sweet.

A lot of really unique fun things at her wedding. But one of our favorite things is that the DJ told us (Bunn DJ, they’re incredible). He told us that all of their wedding guests who were married submitted their first dance songs and Karen and David used that to compile the playlist for cocktail hour.

I think that’s such a fun idea for all the guests to listen out for their first dance songs.

I thought you were going to say is that for their centerpieces Karen’s uncle actually had carved these beautiful wooden flower vases for each of the tables. They were stunning and so unique.

So many sweet and joyful moments throughout the entire day.  Enjoy so many of our favorites from this beautiful Willow Oaks Richmond wedding day.

We love you two so much, congrats!
