Hollyfield Manor Richmond wedding

We are sharing Ashley and Mike’s Hollyfield Manor Richmond wedding day.

I can’t believe we have not been to this wedding venue yet. It is absolutely beautiful and about 30 minutes from Richmond. It has gorgeous open fields, a huge lake, a stunning historic home, and a new reception building.

They have the perfect set up for getting ready spaces. The girls are in the front of the house and the guys are towards the back. Which means that the guys can exit to the back of the building for portraits on the lake side.  Then, the girls can exit at the front of the house for portraits there. So if you’re not doing a first look it’s a really great set up to still get pictures done without feeling like you’re gonna run into each other.

Their ceremony space was right in front of the lake to the side of the house. I don’t know if it’s planned but it works out perfectly there’s a tree line that gives beautiful shade in the evening. I don’t know that we’ve ever had such a wonderful light on our wedding day.

They have a great cocktail our patio to the side of the house and then this beautiful reception space that’s nearby.

Ashley and Mike are two of the sweetest humans on the planet. But then their family and friends are so incredible too it really made for the perfect wedding day.  Her mom alone was.. oh my goodness so sweet.

Their engagement session in New York City was maybe my favorite ever. We knew from that this was going to be an amazing wedding day but I think it even surpassed those expectations. It started off so amazingly because they had the most fun details.

Hollyfield Manor Richmond wedding details

Ashley actually makes wedding invitations and designed her own so that was a blast photograph. They used orange details that were SO much fun.  The bridesmaids dresses and the guys ties were this beautiful velvety orange.

There were so many fun details throughout the wedding day.  The guys has custom sneakers, the girls had a full bubbly bar, she did a first look with her dad.

I asked Ashley if she wanted to do a reveal with her bridesmaids and she said no.. they had already all see her wedding dress.  But I did have them all walk in to see her at the same time and they had the sweetest reaction – they were all cry and so excited.

Had a friend officiate their ceremony. We always love what a friend is the officiate and he did such an amazing job.  Everyone was crying – the groomsmen were even wiping tears away.

Then after the ceremony they had the most stunning portrait time. It was right at sunset and they had a beautiful golden light.

Then right before the reception the bridal party gather together again to unbury the bourbon and take a shot together.

Reception was so fun. She did an awesome first dance with her dad – I always love it when the father daughter first dance is to an upbeat song.

They had such a good party that it actually made it kind of hard to take dancing pictures because the dance floor was like a mob.

Things that you should steal from this wedding day if you were planning your own.

Party Dress and Heirloom Veil

Ashley decided to change into a party dress towards the end of the reception. I always think it’s a good idea for brides to change at the end. It just makes things a whole lot easier especially if you’re going to an after party. But then she one upped it by wearing her moms veil. I thought that was such a fun detail and way to incorporate a heirloom items.

Budget extra time at the beginning of the wedding day

Ashley and Mike decide to add an hour to their wedding day so that we could come earlier in the day. I always think that it is a good idea to make sure that you have plenty of buffer room before the ceremony. It just makes the getting ready process so much more calm and less stressful. But then also we were able to make sure that we got all of their bridal party and family individual pictures done before hand which gave us a lot of extra time after the ceremony.

Especially if you are not doing a first look, making sure that you have time before the ceremony to get as many portraits done as possible makes such a difference. Especially if your ceremony is close to sunset you can feel really rushed to get everything done in that amount of time. Bridal party, family, and portraits is a lot for one hour.  So get as much done beforehand as possible.

Bury the bourbon and have a bourbon bar

I love that they decided to bury the bourbon. I always think this is a fun tradition and create moment with your bridal party before the reception starts.

Also, it was so fun that they decided to do a bourbon bar at the reception. I think so often people get hung up on favors that people can’t take away with them. But think of a fun extra thing you can do for guests at the wedding rather than a trinket that might not even be taken.

Ashley and Mike’s wedding day was perfect. Steal it all!
