Hey friends, how’s it going? We hope you had a great Fourth of July! Today, we’re sharing a very patriotic Nationals Park Waterfront DC engagement session – and oh my goodness, it truly was. Anything revolving around Nationals Park in Washington DC just feels extra red, white, and blue.
We started Shannon and Taylor’s engagement session in the Navy Yard waterfront area. And if you’ve ever been down there, you know how pretty it is. Planning this session took a few emails back and forth (thanks, summer weather!). The week before, it was brutally hot – like “feels like 110°” hot. We messaged Shannon asking if she wanted to reschedule because it can be pretty miserable for everyone if you do have to be out in that weather.
Thankfully, it cooled off the following week. However, it was also expected to rain… Morning of, it poured. We messaged again, ready to adjust, but it cleared in time and turned into the most beautiful evening, warm but breezy off the water. Absolutely perfect.
We started their engagement session in a small park area near Yards Park, which is such a beautiful spot. Shannon brought her daughter for the first part of this Nationals Park Waterfront DC engagement session, and oh my goodness, watching how much her daughter adores Taylor was the sweetest thing ever. The way she hugged him and looked at him – instant tears.
The three of them were so natural and fun to photograph. As we walked along the waterfront towards Nationals Park, Shannon’s friend (and bridesmaid) ended up taking her daughter so we could spend the rest of their session just the two of them.
We loved hearing about their story. Their first date was at a Nationals game, but it got rained out, so they ended up bar hopping around Navy Yard instead. For their engagement session, we recreated that date – walking to the stadium, stopping at some bars for photos, and capturing their playful, natural connection.
They started in a formal outfit for classic portraits, then changed into their Nationals jerseys, which was iconic. We took photos at the home plate entrance with the giant Nationals signage in the background. It was the perfect evening, and they were up for anything – sitting, piggyback rides, walking up and down the stadium steps – all of it.
We’re so excited to photograph their wedding later this year at Fleetwood Farm Winery. It’s such a gorgeous Virginia wedding venue, and knowing how sweet and easygoing Shannon and Taylor are, it’s going to be an incredible day. Plus, her daughter already picked out her flower girl outfit the day after the proposal – how cute is that?
For now, enjoy a few of our favorites from this Nationals Park Waterfront DC engagement session in Washington DC.
Congrats, Shannon and Taylor! We can’t wait to celebrate with you soon. ⚾❤️
