Wintergreen Virginia Shenandoah Mountain Wedding

Hey friends! We’re so excited to share Rachel and Alex’s Wintergreen Virginia Shenandoah mountain wedding day, which took place at the breathtaking Wintergreen Resort in Virginia — a hidden gem nestled just southwest of Charlottesville, right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you’ve never been to Wintergreen, it’s like stepping into a postcard. Everywhere you look, it’s mountain views and peaceful beauty.

They rented a gorgeous mountaintop home for their families and wedding party — the guys took the basement, the girls had the upstairs, and it was such a perfect, peaceful way to start the day. Staying onsite made the whole weekend feel like a little mountain getaway. No rushing, no bouncing between locations — just everyone together in the fresh Shenandoah air. Even we stayed overnight and woke up to views that made us gasp. Wintergreen really is that magical.

A Ceremony with a Shenandoah View

Rachel and Alex said “I do” at Devils Knob Overlook, one of the most iconic spots at Wintergreen. And let us tell you — it did not disappoint. The overlook gave them a sweeping Shenandoah Mountain backdrop, and even though it was a warm summer day, the breeze at the top made it feel a little cooler than it was.

While they didn’t do a first look, Wintergreen’s shuttle team made it easy to split up pre-ceremony portraits. The girls went down first for photos, then the guys — helping us knock out a lot before the ceremony started. It was such a smart way to structure the day.

Their ceremony was so beautiful — surrounded by mountain views and filled with emotion. Afterward, we took just a few more portraits (quickly, because it was warm!), and then everyone headed to the reception at the Mountain Inn.

Sunset Portraits – Wintergreen Virginia Shenandoah mountain wedding

The Mountain Inn’s cocktail hour was held on a scenic patio space that had that perfect “Virginia mountain lodge” vibe. We snuck Rachel and Alex away for a few portraits as guests headed downstairs for dinner, and later during the reception, we pulled them again for sunset photos — which we highly recommend if you’re having a mountain wedding.

The mountains truly come alive at golden hour. The light softened, the views glowed, and the quiet moment away was totally worth it. Just the four of us (and a Wintergreen shuttle driver!) headed back to the overlook, and it felt like a private mountaintop moment to soak in the day.

Personal Moments & a Joyful Celebration

This wedding was filled with the sweetest personal touches. Rachel’s dad sang her a Pixar song during his toast (cue all the tears)! A nod to their morning car rides growing up. Alex gave a heartfelt speech about both Rachel, and his parents that had everyone emotional, and they both exchanged meaningful gifts with their families earlier in the day.

One of the most special details? Rachel had some of her late grandmother’s jewelry made into a necklace and earrings for herself, then used another piece to create a custom ring for her mom. Watching her mom open that gift… there wasn’t a dry eye around.

The reception was full of dancing, thoughtful toasts, and genuine joy. Their friends were SO much fun, and both Rachel and Alex were both incredibly kind and attentive all day long to each others needs, and their friends and family’s. A perfect day!

A Wedding We’ll Never Forget – Wintergreen Virginia Shenandoah mountain wedding

Rachel and Alex’s Wintergreen wedding was everything we love about Virginia mountain weddings: peaceful, emotional, stunning, and full of intentional, meaningful moments. We were so honored to be a part of it. Congrats, Rachel & Alex!
