A Perfect Summer Weekend in Virginia

Hey friends! We’re so excited to share Emily and Christian’s absolutely joyful summer wedding at Waverly Estate—a hidden gem wedding venue in Virginia, just outside of Farmville and about 40 minutes from Richmond.

We actually kicked off the celebration by covering their rehearsal dinner at Charlie’s Waterfront Café in Farmville. As speeches wrapped up that evening, a heavy downpour rolled in—thankfully getting all the rain out of the way before the big day. By Saturday, the skies cleared and we were gifted the perfect summer wedding weather. Not a single drop during the celebration!

Getting Ready & First Looks – Summer Waverly Estate Virginia Wedding

The day began with joyful energy and a calm, excited buzz. Emily was radiant, constantly beaming, and taking it all in—every space, every detail, every person.

They exchanged handwritten notes before seeing each other, and we got to experience not one, but two sweet and emotional first looks—first with Emily’s dad, then Emily with Christian. Tears were flowing for everyone! Even with all the tears, you couldn’t tell afterwards… Emily’s makeup was flawless both before and afterwards!

We then rolled right into portraits, bridal party photos, and family photos. Thanks to their well planned timeline and incredible coordination (shout out to Christina, their planner!), we finished early and gave them extra time to enjoy the rest of the day!

Ceremony at the Historic Waverly Estate Chapel

The ceremony was held in Waverly Estate’s chapel—a whitewashed historic space full of light and charm. While small and intimate, the chapel is breathtaking, with sunlight streaming in and an atmosphere that feels reverent and romantic all at once.

Massive floral displays and a stunning ceremony arch brought the space to life, and best of all—they repurposed these florals later for the reception. So smart!

A bagpiper welcomed guests as they arrived via shuttle, adding a special and unique element to the ceremony entrance. Every detail was thoughtful and intentional.

A Reception Full of Love, Light, and Disco Drinksters – Summer Waverly Estate Virginia Wedding

After a sweet receiving line (yes, a real one—and it worked beautifully!), Emily and Christian joined their guests for cocktail hour under some bistro lights on the patio and fun signature details like parasols, fans and specialty drinks!

The reception took place in Waverly’s greenhouse-style tent, a permanent, light-filled structure that feels both airy and elegant. The floral arrangements from the ceremony were used here again, transforming the space.

The dance floor? Packed. At one point, the groomsmen stripped down to just their vests, bringing an extra level of energy that had everyone (including Emily!) laughing.

Between the historic chapel, the rolling property, and the stylish reception space, Waverly Estate offers a perfect blend of tradition, flexibility, and charm. And when a couple like Emily and Christian brings their people, their hearts, and their joy? It’s magic.
