Hollyfield Manor Rainy Richmond Wedding

Hey friends, how’s it going? Today we’re sharing Abbey and Spencer’s gorgeous Hollyfield Manor Rainy Richmond Wedding day.

Just north of the city, Hollyfield Manor is one of those venues that feels timeless—complete with a historic house, beautiful water views, and a spacious reception area. It’s the kind of place that looks stunning no matter what the weather decides to do. And for Abbey and Spencer, that weather was a whole lot of rain.

A Rainy Richmond Wedding Day

When we say rain, we don’t mean a little drizzle—we’re talking sheets of rain pouring down all day long. Thankfully, Hollyfield Manor has a wide, covered front porch with giant columns that gave us just the right amount of protection for portraits. Even with the constant downpour, we were able to capture stunning photos that looked like the rain wasn’t as heavy as it was!

In fact, when we shared a few sneak peeks, we got so many DMs saying, “You’d never know it was raining!” That’s the magic of having a venue with great backup options—and even more importantly, a couple with the best attitude. Rain on your wedding day is one of those you can’t really plan for completely, so it’s as much a mental hurdle as it is a physical one. But both Abbey & Spencer had the best mentality about it! Up for what we recommended, and not afraid to get the shots they wanted, even if it mean’t going out in the rain for a little bit.

Choosing the Perfect Spot at Hollyfield Manor

Rain on your wedding day can feel stressful, but Abbey and Spencer handled it with so much grace. When it came time for their first look, we gave them the choice: indoors or outside under the porch. Even as the rain pounded on the roof, Abbey trusted us and went with the porch.

Michael was out there wiping down part of the front porch before setting up Abbey & Spencer. And after we set them up and they shared their first look together, they both turned around and told us that they felt great on the deck, and were comfortable with us staying there for their portraits. We even took them out the front for their wedding party photos!

Rainy Wedding Day Portraits

After their first look, we took advantage of Hollyfield’s incredible front porch for portraits. But then Abbey came to us with a “crazy idea”—she wanted photos under the greenery arch in the backyard. Of course, we said yes! With umbrellas in hand, we made it happen.

Later, just as the ceremony was about to begin, the skies cleared. Guests literally cheered as the rain stopped. That break in the weather gave us time to take Abbey and Spencer down to the dock for some of the most stunning portraits of the day. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Hollyfield Manor Wedding reception

The ceremony was held indoors in the reception space, cozy and beautiful. Afterward, guests moved to the patio for cocktail hour while we snuck the couple down to the water. With the sun finally shining, Hollyfield Manor’s outdoor spaces really came alive—the patio overlooking the water is a showstopper.

Their reception kicked off with dances and toasts, followed by dinner and dancing. Abbey’s stepsisters and niece kept the party going all night long.

Final Thoughts

Rain might not be what couples dream of on their wedding day, but Abbey and Spencer proved that with the right venue and the right outlook, it can still be magical. Hollyfield Manor offered stunning spaces rain or shine, and Abbey and Spencer’s positive attitude made it one of our favorite rainy Richmond wedding days.

Congrats, you two—we loved celebrating with you on this Hollyfield Manor Rainy Richmond Wedding day.
