Jane & John – VMFA Richmond Museum Engagement Session

We are so excited to share Jane and John’s engagement session at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond’s Museum District! These two were such a joy to photograph, and we couldn’t have asked for a better evening exploring one of our favorite spots in the city.

Fun fact: Jane and John live just a few blocks away from the VMFA, so this area is basically home to them. It felt so special capturing their photos in the neighborhood where they spend so much of their time.

Why We Love the VMFA for Engagement Sessions

The VMFA is one of our favorite locations for Richmond engagement sessions because it offers so much variety in such a small space. Within just a short walk, you can have elegant architectural backdrops, greenery-filled gardens, and classic Museum District street views—all in one session.

Jane & John’s Relaxed Summer Session

When we first met Jane and John, they admitted they weren’t totally sure they even wanted to do an engagement session. But by the end, Jane told us how glad she was that they did! Engagement sessions are such a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding day—and these two absolutely nailed it.

We started in front of the VMFA, wandered through the surrounding streets in the Museum District, and ended the evening tucked into one of our favorite quiet corners near the museum. Even though there was an event going on that made the area busier than usual, we found so many peaceful spots for them to just relax, laugh, and be themselves.

Why Engagement Sessions Are Worth It

One of our favorite parts about sessions like this is seeing couples go from slightly nervous to completely natural in front of the camera. Jane and John showed up ready to have fun and lean into the experience, and it shows in their photos.

Doing an engagement session before the wedding means less stress on the big day—you’ll already know what to expect, you’ll feel comfortable with us, and we can move through portraits quickly so you can get back to your cocktail hour and spend time with the people you love.
