Richmond Maternity and Newborn session

We don’t share a ton of our Richmond Maternity and newborn session photos on our blog, but the truth is it’s one of our favorite things to shoot these days so we thought we would share a little combo post.

We are going through a lot of personal photos right now and just organizing some old files. So we are looking at all of the like monthly pictures we took of our boys and sorting through all of that stuff. And just thinking back about how important it is that we took those photos and that our kids now just adore flipping through pictures of them when they were younger. We realize this is only going to get more important as they grow up and more valuable as we grow as a family.

One of our boys favorite things to do is flip through old photos. They will sit on the couch together for so long and just talk about all pictures. And we are very guilty about not having a ton of their favorite photos – which is when they find one of all four of us together.

I know it’s hard, but that’s why we find so much value in maternity and newborn photos.

Planning a Richmond maternity and newborn photography session

There are definitely some things you can do to make your newborn session easier.

1 – We always choose a date before the baby comes so that there is something on your calendar already. If the baby’s due date ends up being very different, or you’re not feeling up to it after, or anything comes up – we can always adjust that date but we at least have some thing already planned so you don’t need to worry about that.

2 – We also will give you some details about the newborn session before the baby is due so that you can get ready. We recommend already having outfits for the whole family out and ready before the baby even comes. Our recommendation for new moms is a loose fitting dress. Something that is very flattering and easy to wear.

3 – We also think it’s a great idea when our moms choose to have hair and make up come to their house so they can get a little pampered before your shoot.

4 – We also often have an additional family member who comes to the house the morning of so that they can help the new parents get themselves ready for the shoot. Right after babies are born people are always wanting to help – so have a friend or family member be there.

5 – Have a plan to print your photos – we offer prints and albums along with our packages. Feel free to take advantage of that, or add frames/canvases/albums onto your baby registry.
