Rainy Virginia Cliffe Inn Richmond Wedding

Today we are sharing Emily and Patrick’s rainy Virginia Cliffe Inn wedding day. They just got married here in Richmond at the Virginia Cliffe Inn.

We were ready for this wedding through to rain all day. The weather forecast had said it was going to rain from early afternoon all the way into the evening basically our entire coverage time.  We are rarely nervous about bad weather on a wedding day – but the outlook looked grim.

If you can just be more like Emily and Patrick on your wedding day, everything will go fine. They were so calm and just trusting in whatever we asked them to do. They just had the mindset of we’re going to get what we get, and go out when we can go out, and it’s all going to be OK. And it was..

They also were super flexible in getting things done a little bit earlier in the morning so that we can start shooting a little bit earlier, to avoid the rain.  And if you can have that flexibility on your wedding day – you’ll get it.

We haven’t had a wedding yet where it poured the entire day and we didn’t have any opportunity for portraits outside. As long as you’re flexible, you can still be able to get those outdoor portraits at you wedding venue like you’ve dreamed of.

Rainy Richmond Wedding

So let’s give a shout out to the bridesmaids. We photographed both Emma and Taylor’s wedding (and have shot a wedding with Olivia as a bridesmaid). So they were totally ready and knew exactly what to do. They were so helpful with getting things done on time so that we were actually able to take all our portraits before the rain..

I could talk forever about how much I love Emily and Patrick and the friends and family that were there on this rainy Virginia Cliffe Inn wedding day. I have such a deep love for these couples that were there. We actually took a photo with all of the couples who we’ve photographed their wedding. It makes me cry just thinking about it. I love these people so much. It was just fantastic to spend an evening celebrating with these people.

It definitely poured for a large part of the day. But the weather did clear up for a little bit so people were actually able to enjoy the property. Virginia Cliffe Inn is really beautiful and has an awesome garden and pond. So it is nice that the guests were actually able to walk around and enjoy that.

We did the first look and bridal party, and then a little bit more of the two of them before it really started pouring. We literally got her inside at like the exact right time for the sky just opened up.

Huge shout out to the planner Rachel. You don’t know how crucial a day of coordinator or wedding planner is until something goes wrong on your wedding day. Like it pouring rain. She did such a good job pivoting with the tight space of the Virginia Cliffe Inn.

Honestly these two just make such a perfect couple. I think everyone there was just so excited that they were finally married.  They are such genuine people, the kind of people who you immediately feel like close friends with.  We love them so much and it was an honor to be there to celebrate with them.

Enjoy a few of our favorites from this rainy Virginia Cliffe Inn wedding day.

Congrats you guys!
