Rainy Kingsmill Resort Wedding

We are sharing Sarah and Drew’s rainy Kingsmill Resort wedding day in Williamsburg, VA.

Kingsmill is great because the property is massive and there is so much variety.  It was very different than the last time we photographed at Kingsmill.  We photographed a such different locations this time around – which is so much fun.

I think it’s interesting that one of the questions we get a lot is “have you shot at my venue before?”.  It seems like it’s something that’s really important to a lot of couples, but it’s actual so energizing for us to shoot somewhere new.  So it was nice to find new and different locations for this rainy Kingsmill Resort wedding.

We did their first look at their original ceremony location.  We actually moved our coverage time with them up about 2 hours so that we were able to get portraits outside before the thunderstorms came.

Casey, of Wedding Co of Williamsburg, was their planner – and she did such a good job pivoting and making it all happen for everyone.  Planners are crucial, especially when things don’t go exactly as planned (like if there is rain on your wedding day).

So we did their first look right on the James River, where they were originally going to get married. And it is absolutely beautiful there but there was also a tornado watch so it was incredibly windy. Understandably, so Sarah wanted to get out of the crazy wind storm.

The venue actually allowed us to head over the estate at Kingsmill and it was absolutely incredible.  It was amazing.

The Kingsmill Estate made for an amazing location for a ton of variety of portraits.  And it wasn’t too crazy with the wind, so we were able to still get some waterfront portraits.

We then headed back to the main building at Kingsmill and hustled through their bridal party photos before we had to run inside to escape the rain.

There was actually a wonderful overhang where we were able to take the rest of their bridal party pictures and family photos.

It was also awesome, because it was a crazy downpour the entire ceremony, but then the skies opened very briefly so they were able to enjoy a little bit of cocktail hour outside on Kingsmill’s gorgeous patio that overlooks the water.

I also want to shout out to the bridal party.  Especially the guys.  On a day where rain is coming and you’re really on a time crunch, it’s so important to be organized and ready.  So huge shout out because they made such a huge different in being able to make these portraits happen.

Her family was also SO amazing – they were all so kind.

Enjoy a few of our many favorites from this rainy Kingsmill Resort wedding day.

Congratulations you guys!
