Smith Mountain Lake Engagement

Today we are sharing Sarah and Drew’s Smith Mountain Lake engagement session that we shot recently at Bernards landing right in the center of Smith Mountain Lake.

So we actually shot this engagement session at Smith Mountain Lake on the way to Roanoke for a wedding that weekend.

Bernards Landing – Smith Mountain Lake Engagement

We shot this at Bernard’s Landing, right on the lake.  The grounds around Bernards Landing is definitely an area that is set up for weddings. It would be such a beautiful place to get married and then be up to have your guests spend and enjoy time on Smith Mountain Lake.

The whole resore is sort of out of the peninsula on the lake. So it is really surrounded by water which means that no matter where the light is you can find a beautiful location for photos.

On this day we were actually playing around with her the light was because clouds can come and get it out. So we actually started in one place but it almost immediately moved to the other side of the peninsula and it was AMAZING.

The Pier

There was a little pier that they got to walk down. This was an especially great location for them because the two of them spend a ton of time on the water together and love boating. It’s always fun when you can incorporate something personal to the two of you at your engagement session. But an added bonus is when it is an absolutely spectacularly beautiful like Bernard’s Landing at Smith Mountain Lake.

Another thing that was really cool is that the water actually was blue. A lot of times when we’re photographing here in Richmond on the water the James River, it actually turns out almost brown. Like a little murky. But the way that the light was and how we were able to find locations it was so rich and beautiful. And with the mountains behind and it really was just a spectacular day for photos.

The Beach – Smith Mountain Lake Engagement

Then we had them change and headed to the other side of the peninsula. There we were able to go on another pier like boat/dock thing. There was a nice field. And then we even got to end at a little beach area. So it really did have a ton of variety will sticking with the boat/water theme.

We had such a blast with the two of them and can’t wait for their wedding. That’s going to be in Williamsburg, so a little bit closer to us, but still on the water.

Anyways come back for their wedding next spring. But for now enjoy a few of our mini favorites from Sarah and Drew’s Smith Mountain Lake engagement session. Congrats you guys!
