If you were to take a poll of Photographers in the Richmond area, asking them if they’ve shot at Maymont Park, I bet almost all of them would say yes. In fact, when we started out on this exciting business adventure, Maymont was a reliable favorite. But for probably the last 2 to 3 years we haven’t been back, other than an Amos Lee concert we went to. That’s why were so thrilled when Karli and John told us that was where they wanted to go. Maymont has so much natural beauty and variety in locations, never feels crowded, and is huge.

When we first met Karli and John, they had been referred to us by our dear friends Luke and Ashley photography, and were the first couple we had met in person for quite a while. Being able to meet our clients face-to-face is always a bonus especially if it’s over a few craft ales, like we did with Karli and John at The Veil Brewing Co. in Scott’s Addition.

After chatting with them for a short while we found out that they had a friend that took some photos they used for their save the date, so they were unsure whether or not they wanted to do a full engagement session. In the end, they decided to go for it, which we were so thrilled about! Regardless of your circumstances, we recommend our couples take time to do an engagement session… they are not only for practical items like save the dates. They also commemorate a very short but very special time in your relationship with your significant other, and they get you comfortable in front of our cameras, which is almost as important.  Plus we like being able to spend some extra time with y’all before the wedding day!

Maymont was beautiful! The weather was perfect, and the flowers had bloomed. We started next to the mansion right by this giant tree that was shading the sun oh so perfectly.We continued past the mansion, which I don’t know I had ever done in the past, before swinging by the Japanese garden and a wide open field just next to the entrance. Karli and John, it’s been so great to get to know you two! Thanks for giving us a little time with you and our cameras, and we can’t wait for your big day at the John Marshall!
