I absolutely love when our couples write their own vows.  It’s something Michael and I didn’t do for our own wedding and something I would have definitely changed.  Neither of us are remotely eloquent with words, but the fabulous thing about vows is you don’t have to be.  We’ve heard songs and poems, short and to the point, long and full of teary moments, hilarious or sentimental… but no matter what it is, listening to them is always one of my favorite parts of the wedding day.  You get a little glimpse into how they are as a couple, or the story of how they got to where they are.. and I love it.   Emma went first and her vows were the perfect blend of funny and thoughtful, all wrapped up into a rhyme and when she was finished and it was Wes’s turn he said “Oh, how do I follow that”.. and I thought to myself.. oh no.. is this going to be the moment I change my views on writing your own vows?.. but no… they were BEAUTIFUL.. and listening to him talk about his gorgeous bride while chocking back tears.. it didn’t really even matter what words he had put together.. because no matter what he said, he was so evident how much he loves and adores Emma.. which is why I LOVE when couples write their own vows.

Willow Oaks Country Club is such a beautiful venue.  Right on the James River, a beautifully renovated event space flooded with natural light and soft blue walls, a wonderful staff, and old school charm.  We never recommend taking portraits inside, because we love using natural light, but we took so many portraits inside because it was that gorgeous and light filled.  Though we did manage to go outside for a few.. and even take a golf cart down to the windy river front during cocktail hour.  Enjoy a few of our favorites from this perfect day..
